Homes and roofs in Lewisham

A roofer in Lewisham sees a broad mix of homes: Victorian terraces in Hither Green and Ladywell, interwar semis with hipped tiled roofs further south, and newer flats around the town centre. Each needs a different approach, from slate repairs on a narrow rear return to a full re-roof on a tiled semi.

Where we work in Lewisham

We cover Lewisham town centre, Hither Green, Ladywell, Brockley, Catford and the streets towards Lee and Blackheath. Lewisham sits just south-east of our Southwark base. Tell us which slope or section of the house is affected so we can plan access to the front, the back or an extension.

Common roof problems in Lewisham

Common faults include slipped slates and cracked tiles on rear slopes, failed valleys where a rear return meets the main roof, and chimney flashings that let water into the loft. Interwar hipped roofs often need their hip and ridge tiles rebedded or fitted with a dry system, and roof windows added during loft conversions can leak at their flashing kits.

Hither Green and Ladywell terraces

The terraced streets of Hither Green and Ladywell have rear returns that meet the main roof in narrow valleys, often close to a chimney or party wall. These meeting points are where many leaks start. Our roof repairs trace the water to the junction responsible before any tiles or slates are disturbed.

Re-roofing interwar semis

Further south, interwar semis carry hipped roofs of concrete or clay tiles that are now well into their life. When tiles turn porous and the underlay has failed, a new roof with fresh membrane, battens and tiles is often better value than another round of repairs. We set out the options clearly in your quote.

Flat roofs on Lewisham extensions

Kitchen and bathroom extensions with flat roofs are everywhere in Lewisham, and many of the older felt coverings are now well past their best. Splits, blisters and failed upstands let water into rooms below. We repair what can be repaired and replace what cannot, using rubber, felt or fibreglass systems chosen to suit the roof. Our flat roof page explains the options, and every quote includes a check of the deck beneath.

Fascias and gutters on Lewisham semis

On the interwar semis south of the town centre, original fascias are often rotten behind the gutter. We replace the boards, fit vented soffits and new gutters in one job. See our fascias and soffits page.
