Flat roofs work hard. Water sits on them longer than on a pitched slope, the sun bakes the surface, and every upstand, outlet and edge trim is a place where a small failure becomes a leak into a kitchen, bathroom or garage. We install the main modern systems, including EPDM rubber, reinforced felt, fibreglass (GRP) and liquid applied coatings, along with single ply membranes and warm roof construction where insulation is being upgraded. Each has its place. Rubber suits simple shapes with few details, fibreglass handles complicated edges and foot traffic well, and torch-on felt remains a dependable choice for many extensions.

Before we quote, we check the deck underneath. A soft or rotten board will not hold any new covering, so we look at the falls, the timbers and where the water drains to. You then get a clear choice of systems with honest advice on which suits the roof. Smaller faults such as a split seam, a failed upstand or a blocked outlet can often be repaired without stripping the whole roof.

Drainage decides how long a flat roof lasts. A roof with too little fall, or an outlet in the wrong place, will hold water whatever the covering. When we replace a flat roof we look at whether firring strips or tapered insulation can improve the fall, whether the outlet is large enough and where the water goes once it leaves the roof. Getting this right at the start is far cheaper than chasing leaks afterwards, and it is part of every flat roof quotation we give.
