Homes and roofs in Bermondsey

A roofer in Bermondsey works on everything from Victorian cottages to converted riverside warehouses. Away from the Thames, the streets around Bermondsey Street, Southwark Park Road and Jamaica Road are lined with terraced houses with slate roofs and chimney stacks, while closer to the river the old warehouse buildings now carry flat roofs, roof terraces and roof lights above the flats inside.

Where we work in Bermondsey

Our Bermondsey coverage runs from London Bridge and Bermondsey Street out through South Bermondsey, Southwark Park and Rotherhithe. We are based nearby in Southwark, so reaching Bermondsey is quick. For blocks and conversions, let us know who manages the building and how the roof is reached, whether through a hatch, a stair or from scaffold.

Common roof problems in Bermondsey

Converted buildings bring their own problems. Large flat roofs with several outlets, roof terraces laid over older coverings and roof lights with tired seals all create leaks that show up several floors down. On the terraced streets, chimney flashings, parapet gutters and slipped slates on rear slopes are the usual suspects, and shared gutters between houses often need clearing.

Roof lights and roof terraces

Many Bermondsey flats have roof lights over the stairwell or a roof terrace laid on top of the main covering. When the seal around a roof light fails, or the covering under a terrace gives way, water can travel a long way before it appears. We trace the route, repair the flashing or covering and explain what we found, as part of our general roofing service.

Slate terraces away from the river

The terraced streets inland from Jamaica Road carry slate roofs, chimney stacks and parapet gutters much like the rest of the borough. Corroded nails let slates slide, and shared stacks need their lead and pointing kept sound. Our roof repairs deal with the cause rather than patching over the symptom.

Guttering on Bermondsey streets

Shared gutters between terraced houses are easy to forget until one end blocks and water spills over both properties. Older cast iron and plastic systems also crack at their joints, and downpipes discharging onto pavements or into old gullies can cause damp at the base of the wall. We clear, repair and replace gutters and downpipes, and replace rotten fascias behind them, as part of our guttering service in Bermondsey.
