Homes and roofs in Southwark

Southwark is home ground for Primefix Roofing & Guttering Ltd. Our base is in the borough, close to Walworth and the Elephant and Castle, so a roofer in Southwark from our team is never far away. The housing here changes street by street: Georgian and early Victorian terraces with butterfly roofs hidden behind parapets, later Victorian houses with slate slopes and rear returns, mansion blocks, and post-war estates with large flat roofs.

Where we work in Southwark

We cover Walworth, the Elephant and Castle, Borough, Kennington Park Road and the streets either side of the Old Kent Road, along with Newington and the roads running down towards Camberwell. Many properties are split into flats, so access, the shared roof and who is responsible for which part often need sorting out before work starts. Tell us which flat or section is affected and we plan around it.

Common roof problems in Southwark

The classic Southwark leak starts in a hidden valley. A butterfly roof drains to a central gutter behind the front parapet, and when that gutter or its outlet blocks, water backs up under the slates and comes through the top-floor ceiling. Parapet walls themselves let in damp through tired copings and flashings. On flat-roofed blocks and extensions, split felt, failed upstands and blocked outlets are the usual causes.

Primefix Roofing in Southwark

Being based locally means a prompt response when a roof starts leaking, and time to explain the problem properly when you are planning bigger work. We provide free site surveys and quotes for repairs, new roofs, flat roofs, guttering and chimney work across the borough. Every job is carried out by a fully insured team, and our workmanship is guaranteed.

Flat roofs on Southwark blocks and extensions

A large share of Southwark homes sit under flat roofs, from post-war blocks to kitchen extensions behind Victorian terraces. Water lies on these roofs longer than on a slope, so a blocked outlet or a split at an upstand quickly reaches the rooms below. Our flat roof service covers rubber, felt and fibreglass coverings, and we check the deck underneath before recommending a system.

Parapet gutters and rainwater pipes

Behind many Southwark parapets is a lead or felt gutter that nobody sees until it overflows. Leaves, moss and silt build up, the outlet chokes and water finds its way into the wall. We clear and repair these hidden gutters and the hoppers and downpipes below them as part of our guttering work, so rain leaves the roof the way it should.

New roofs and re-roofs in the borough

When the slates on a Southwark terrace have slipped once too often and the underlay has perished, a full re-roof is the lasting answer. We strip the old covering, check the rafters, lay new breathable membrane and battens and fit new slates or tiles with fresh lead at the parapets and stacks. Our new roof service explains each stage, and our gallery shows membrane and battens set out on real jobs.
